Biography
Abeer Badawi is a Ph.D. Candidate in Computer Engineering at Ontario Tech university under the supervision of Dr. Khalid Elgazzar. Her Ph.D. research focuses on Leveraging Artificial Intelligence to Detect and Manage Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD) on a Clinical Demonstration Unit (CDU). Her research collaborates with Dr. Amer Burhan at Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences and Dr. Shehroz Khan at Toronto Rehabilitation Institute (KITE) at UHN.
She is also working at BetterCart Inc. as a data scientist intern in Natural language processing (NLP) for text classification since July 2021. She is a Teacher Assistant with experience in teaching 15 different courses in Computer, Electrical, and Electronics departments in Egypt and Canada. She completed her undergraduate and master's degree in Electrical and Communication engineering at Arab Academy for Science and Technology in Egypt. She ranked as one of her department's top five students with a GPA of 3.95/4.
Some of her main projects are using machine learning to predict human activity recognition from wearable sensors, real-time data streaming for Health risk prediction of ECG signals, and using deep learning to predict COVID-19 from chest X-ray images. Abeer's research interests include machine learning, deep learning, real-time data analysis, human activity recognition, biomedical signal and image processing.
