Biography

Alyssia is an MASc student in Biomedical Engineering pursuing an emphasis in Robotics under the co-supervision of Dr. Alex Mihailidis and Dr. Brokoslaw Laschowski. Her research involves the development of a powered upper-limb exoskeleton using proportional myoelectric control and investigating the use of decision-making models to automate the control process. Some of her research interests include assistive technology, rehabilitation engineering, and using AI in clinical settings.

Prior to joining the Intelligent Assistive Technology and Systems Lab (IATSL), Alyssia received her Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Guelph in 2022. Through her co-op program and part-time work, Alyssia has gained experience working with start-ups and in different areas of the biotech industry, including R&D, project leading, quality assurance, and intellectual property.

Furthermore, Alyssia is interested in STEM outreach, bioethics, and global accessibility to healthcare. She hopes to integrate these topics in her future involvements with the university.

Alyssia presented her poster at ICAIR 2023.
