Biography
Derek completed his bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and master's in biomedical engineering. He's interested in technology in healthcare, and his research focuses on biosignal processing and machine learning. His master's thesis was on analysing upper airway narrowing based on non-invasive recording of nasal airflow.
After graduation in 2016, Derek pursued further research activities at IATSL. He implemented a system that monitors gait and balance of dementia patients using non-obtrusive regimes. The results will be used to predict the risks of fall. In addition, he worked on using computer vision to detect postures during stroke rehab exercises. The research findings will be translated into algorithms that improve the exercise efficiency and outcome.
