Biography

Manas joined IATSL in September 2011 as a Master’s student in the Clinical Engineering program at the University of Toronto. As his thesis project, he is developing a context‑aware ambient display system for acute-care patient rooms. He plans to employ user‑centered design techniques to identify clinician and patient requirements pertaining to data visualization (hardware and user-interface). Usability testing of a proposed system implementation will be carried out at the Care-Lab in Toronto Rehabilitation Institute. The overarching objective of his project is to improve the efficiency of doctor-patient interactions in acute care settings and reduce risk to patient safety through the useful presentation of assimilated medical data on ambient display systems.

Manas holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kansas. He graduated with highest distinction and received departmental honours for his undergraduate thesis 'Study of cascaded lead controller design'. His thesis presented a method to identify the optimum number of cascade lead controllers for a given application, reaching a point of diminishing improvement with each additional controller.
