Biography

Sayeh received her B.A.Sc. in Engineering Science from the University of Toronto in 2016. She first joined IATSL in the October of 2016 as a research analyst, where she developed an autonomous GPS-based life-space measure for older adults. In January of 2018, Sayeh started her work as a biomedical engineering MASc. candidate under the supervision of Dr. Alex Mihailidis at the University of Toronto where she later fast-tracked to Ph.D.

Sayeh's Ph.D. thesis focuses on the relationship between older adults, especially those with dementia, and their environment. She is using GPS technology to monitor the mobility and transportation patterns of these individuals. In her research, Sayeh is applying machine learning and geospatial techniques to investigate the barriers to and facilitators for outdoor mobility and life-space of older adults and older adults with dementia. She is also developing a predictive system for behavioral symptoms of dementia in older adults with dementia.

Sayeh's research interests comprise machine-learning, data mining, knowledge discovery, and pervasive environments theory. She is passionate about making accessible age- and dementia-friendly communities.
