Biography
Deniz is developing a modular and gamified robotic system to enhance engagement in stroke patients with upper limb impairments as part of her PhD research. Her studies include creating a cost-effective robotic system for independent use, evaluating adaptive gamified exercises, and building a community-based social platform for virtual rehab sessions to study its effects on engagement. This work aims to provide remote, personalized rehabilitation that is both accessible and engaging.
Deniz is a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto, specializing in Robotics under Dr. Alex Mihailidis. Her academic journey includes a BASc in Engineering Science (Aerospace), an MHSc in Clinical Engineering, and an MSc in Rehabilitation Sciences. She is dedicated to developing affordable, practical healthcare solutions that significantly improve the quality of life.
Deniz is currently recruiting stroke patients for her first study on user-centered design of the robotic rehabilitation platform. For more details about the study and how to participate, please click on the link HERE.
