Biography
Melika Torabgar is a PhD student at the University of Toronto with an interdisciplinary background in biomedical engineering, rehabilitation science, and artificial intelligence. She completed her master’s degree at the University of Alberta, where her research focused on older adults living with dementia. As part of her graduate work, she developed a technology to identify engagement-related behaviours of older adults with dementia while they were playing mobile games, reflecting her broader interest in using technology to better understand behaviour and improve care for vulnerable populations.
Her academic and professional work centers on developing intelligent, data-driven solutions for healthcare, rehabilitation, and digital health applications. With over four years of experience in machine learning, data analysis, and AI product development across academic and industry settings, her interests include rehabilitation movement analysis, tele-rehabilitation, computer vision, and patient-centered intelligent systems. By combining technical expertise with domain knowledge in healthcare, she aims to advance research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, rehabilitation, and healthcare innovation.
