Sina Mehdizadeh
Post-doctoral Fellow
University of Toronto and Toronto Rehabilitation Institute
Biography
Dr. Sina Mehdizadeh is a postdoctoral fellow at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, University Health Network, under the supervision of Dr. Babak Taati. He obtained his bachelor, master, and PhD degrees all in Biomedical Engineering-Biomechanics from Amirkabir University of Technology, Tehran, Iran in 2007, 2009, and 2014, respectively. Before joining TRI, he worked as a Senior Biomechanics Researcher at the National Sports Institute of Malaysia.
His research interests include both theoretical and applied aspects of human movement science. From the theoretical point of view, he is interested in investigating neuromotor system variability, i.e. to understand root causes and also components of variability. His aim here is to understand the relationship between motor control and motor variability.
From the applied point of view, he studies balance and stability in the gait of people with different neuromusculoskeletal disorders. The keywords of his research here are clinical gait analysis, balance, stability, and falls. In doing his research, he adopts tools from various domains such as biomechanics, mathematics, nonlinear dynamics, and computer science (machine/deep learning). Currently he is working on a project the aim of which is to predict falls in elderly people with dementia.
